Algoma School District Destination Imagination (DI) Raising Money For Global Finals Fund
How do you feel about a program that has over 90,000 student participants on over 16,000 teams from 48 states and 31+ countries, inspiring a global community of learners to utilize diverse approaches in applying 21st century skills and creativity? Algoma School District (ASD) participates in this very program and for the 2018-19 season has 50 students making up 9 teams! DI is a non-profit, volunteer-led organization with a purpose of inspiring and equipping students from Kindergarten to college to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, seven new, standards-based, open-ended Challenges in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics), Improvisation, Service Learning, and Early Learning are offered. Team members own the solution! Adult intervention is not allowed!
Under the supervision of a Team Manager, teams of 2-7 students work together to solve their selected Challenge. Academic tournaments take place around the world where teams present their solutions to trained Appraisers. In working to solve these Challenges, teams learn 21st-century skills (project management, financial planning, time management, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship, and courage) and build on their unique strengths. We are fortunate that our school district supports the program through the state level. Where DI differs from most scholastic competitions is that there is a tournament at the International level (Global Finals). It is at this level where we become self-funded.
Our teams earn the right to compete at Global Finals by first placing in the top two at our Regional Tournament held in early March and then again by placing in the top two at the Wisconsin State Tournament held in mid-April. For eight consecutive seasons, a team from the ASD DI program has qualified to compete at Global Finals, the International tournament held each year in May. For the 2018 season, our Elementary Level Fine Arts team placed 8th in the WORLD! The 2019 tournament will be held in Kansas City, Missouri and the cost to send one team there to compete is approximately $9000. In addition to the many fundraising events we hold throughout the year, we rely on supporters such as yourself to make sure these students are able to represent Algoma on the International stage.
Our Cards for A Cause sale is just one of the several fundraiser we hold during the course of the season.
On Sunday, February 24, 2019, the ASD DI program will be holding a public performance and dinner at the Algoma High School where our teams will showcase their Challenge solutions before family and friends in preparation for the Regional tournament the following Saturday. During this event we hold a silent auction where 100% of the proceeds are placed in the Global Finals fund.
It is at this event where you can pick-up and pay for your card order.
Checks can be made payable to Algoma School District DI.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
